As Supreme Court Upholds Racial Profiling Portion of Arizona’s Anti-immigrant Law, Women’s Groups Speak out against Attack on Women and Families
June 26, 2012
Washington, DC – On Monday, the United States Supreme Court upheld Section 2B of SB1070, Arizona’s hateful anti-immigrant law. Section 2B is the provision of SB1070 that requires police to ask people they stop about their immigration status if they think there is “reasonable suspicion” that the person is undocumented. This provision has been criticized by law enforcement and constitutional law experts, many of whom have stated that it will be impossible to implement it in a race-neutral manner, and that it legitimizes racial profiling and discrimination.
